The director of Air Service for the Indianapolis Airport Authority says today’s announcement of new service from Branson Air Express is a sign that passenger demand is starting to increase and consumer travel confidence is starting to change. The carrier will begin service September 10th and initially offer four weekly flights to Branson, Missouri, with links to destinations in Texas.

Every Labor Day weekend, NHRA racers and fans gather in Indianapolis for the NHRA’s “Super Bowl” of all races. Mac Tools U.S. Nationals presented by Lucas Oil at O’Reilly Raceway Park on Sept. 1st thru 6th. This event now serves as the kickoff for the Countdown playoffs and the six-race run to the Full Throttle championships. This big event of drag racing was actually contested in several cities before reaching its permanent home in Indianapolis in 1961. Great Bend, Kan., Kansas City, Mo., Oklahoma City, and Detroit served as early hosts for the prestigious event. The first Nationals was held in Great Bend, Kansas. The inaugural Nationals hosted competitors from nearly every U.S. state, including Hawaii. Thirty classes of competition, including dragsters, roadsters, coupes, sedans, stock cars, sports cars, and gassers, were eligible for participation. As crowds continued to grow and racer participation increased to more than 500 teams, NHRA President Wally Parks and Tom Binford, president of the newly proposed Indianapolis Raceway Park, reached an agreement to move the U.S. Nationals to its final home.
